Strategic Onboarding – The Challenges of Transitioning Your Staff to an IPD Mindset
Moderated by: Will Ikerd PE, CWI, Founder and Director, Department of Integrated Project Delivery, Raymond L. Goodson Jr., Inc.
Contracts and Technology are easy to change and evolve. However, contracts and technology in and of themselves do not build trust, collaboration, communication, or any of the other synergies that are touted as core philosophies of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). It is the people involved with a project that present both the greatest benefits and challenges to the IPD process. Many firms will find that it is the sociology of IPD that is far more difficult to implement than any of the technology that the IPD process may utilize.

Team Perspectives – What is the Structural Engineer’s Role in the Process of IPD?
Moderated by: Jennifer Goupil, PE, Editor, Structural Engineering & Design and Sustainable Engineering, Stagnito Media
Join Structural Engineering & Design Editor Jennifer Goupil, P.E., to discuss what the process of integrated project delivery means to structural engineers. Have you participated on an IPD project? Come share your experience. If you haven’t been involved first-hand in and IPD project, join the discussion and ask questions of those who have. During this session, we will discuss the IPD processes, definitions, challenges, and more.

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD): Six Case Studies (25 minutes)
Jonathan Cohen, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, Jonathan Cohen and Associates
Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) should be understood as a comprehensive process which addresses the entire sequence of programming, design, construction, and operations. In late 2009, AIA, AGC, and McGraw Hill commissioned six in-depth case studies of completed projects that used a pure form of IPD. The case studies show the successful application of IPD to a variety of building types in diverse regions of the country. Jonathan Cohen visited all of the case study projects, gathered metrics, and interviewed at length all of the major project participants. In this presentation, attendees will learn how each project team creatively adapted the principles of IPD to the requirements of each project, and specifically what technology professionals can take away from these experiences to help their firms transition to more efficient processes.
Exploring the Legal Implications of Building Information Modeling and Integrated Project Delivery (15 minutes)
Jay Wickersham, FAIA, Esq., Noble & Wickersham LLP
The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is expanding exponentially throughout the design and construction industry. What are its implications for contractual relationships? Does it affect the standard of care, or responsibility for construction means and methods? Who owns the BIM model? And how does the use of BIM interact with the new business relations currently described as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)? In this presentation, the speaker, an experienced contract negotiator, will identify key legal issues arising from the use of BIM. He will also analyze and contrast the new forms of BIM addenda that have been developed by the AIA and ConsensusDocs.
Exploring the Outlook and Best Markets for Integrated Project Delivery (15 minutes)
Jerry Guerra, Principal, The JAGG Group
The AEC industry’s current fascination with Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is exceeded only by the confusion about what it actually is. Is IPD just another name for lean construction or building information modeling? Is it really “design-build on steroids” as some say? In this session, writer and consultant Jerry Guerra will call on the extensive research conducted for PSMJ’s AEC Issue Brief: Integrated Project Delivery to discuss the various definitions of IPD, its primary drivers, and IPD’s outlook for firms across the spectrum of the AEC industry.
